OUR HISTORY
Robb and Carter was founded in 1948 and is a family-type business. The Company was moved to the current premises in 1967. In 2010, Rods Engineering works was purchased and Incorporated into the Krugersdorp operation.

The early days
Robb and Carter was one of the crop of post WW2 ventures that helped to initiate and accelerate the vast industrial development of South Africa. The company was founded in 1948.
As with many other successful ventures that started with limited financial resources, the firm’s entry into manufacturing was modest. The staff comprised the two founder members, Eric M Robb (far right) and Arthur S Carter (far left). Both had served their apprenticeships at West Rand Engineering. Their equipment comprised two small bench lathes.
Their first contract was to make a small quantity of shop fittings. Once this was completed, they decided to specialise in precision production work.
Robb and Carter was registered in 1950 and soon moved to premises near the junction of Wright and Priestman in Factoria, Krugersdorp.
Factory Extensions over the years
In 1967, the company moved to new premises at 6 Jackson Street, Factoria, Krugersdorp, where it is still situated to this day.
Factory as initially built in 1967, with the exception of an extension to the offices (reception and top front office) completed about 1990.
Shop floor area 2000sq m.
Extensions built in 2007. Note the 2 new tiers of the factory, the additions to the change rooms and the lapa.
Final extensions completed in 2010, just before the purchase and incorporation of Rods Engineering.
Note the one additional tier to the back of the factory and the new electrical sub-station (bottom right).

Meet the Team
Chris Ziranek
Managing Director
Chris is very much a hands on owner-director, interacting with customers, suppliers and the factory staff alike. He has an open door policy, promoting honesty, integrity and respect.
Chris started with Robb and Carter in 1984, coming from an electrical engineering background. He took over the leadership of the company in 2000.
MALLORY VAN VUUREN
Administrator
Mallory joined the company in January 2022 after Elaine Faber retired after nearly 20 years’ service with Robb and Carter.
Mallory handles the switchboard, administration, financials, accounts and payroll. She brings a fresh energy into the company, together with a quiet confidence, integrity and a commitment to her work.
REINART BERGH
Factory Manager
Reinart is a very resourceful man, effectively applying his skills as a toolmaker to manufacturing. He is a progressive thinker and loves a challenge. He now organises and controls the production and jobbing work for the whole factory.
Reinart joined the company in 2010.
DOLF MARAIS
Sales Engineer and Quality Control Manager
Dolf splits his time between interacting with customers (customer calls, quoting, expediting etc) and managing the QC function within the company. Being a qualified fitter and turner gives him significant advantage in handling these duties.
Dolf has been with the company since 2002.

Our full compliment of administrative and shop floor staff, many of whom have vastly increased their qualifications while employees at Robb and Carter.
